Bayesian analysis workshop May 17
Today we're highlighting a short workshop that will introduce participants
to Bayesian data analysis!

*Applied Bayesian Models for Social Scientists: From Theory to Estimation
and Inference*

*Dates:* May 17-28, 2021
*Instructor: *Johannes Karreth, Ursinus College
*Registration Deadline*: May 13

This course provides an applied introduction to Bayesian data analysis and
inference, geared toward researchers in the social sciences. Bayesian
methods have rapidly grown in the social sciences in recent years and have
become a central tool for a wide variety of analytical methods, such as
multilevel and measurement models, quantitative text analysis, and network
analysis. This highly applied course enables participants to immediately
use Bayesian tools in their own research and to effectively communicate
their Bayesian results to other scholars.

Course topics include foundations of Bayesian inference, Bayesian inference
for linear and generalized linear regression models, multilevel modeling,
measurement/latent variable models, and more...

Target audience: Social scientists of any discipline at any career stage
working with observational or experimental data. The course will be of
particular benefit to researchers working on measurement issues, analyses
of grouped, structured, nested, or multilevel data or repeated measures,
and those interested in evaluating uncertainty around statistical
indicators.

*Bio:* Johannes Karreth is an Assistant Professor of Politics and
International Relations at Usinus College. He specializes in the study of
international institutions and examines their role in resolving conflicts
in different issue areas. His core research investigates how international
institutions such as the World Bank have changed the dynamics of conflict
and cooperation in political disputes between and within countries. His
book Incentivizing Peace
<https://www.ursinus.edu/live/news/2654-incentivizing-peace> (Oxford
University Press, 2018) explores how international institutions can prevent
civil wars.

In other research <http://www.jkarreth.net/research.html>, he studies how
international and domestic politics interact, for instance how citizens
react to visible aspects of globalization including immigration and changes
in political parties’ ideological positions.
