Spring into ICPSR for a Bit!

While we are still largely remote, the Perry Building is preparing to
welcome back ICPSR staff soon; meanwhile, spring continues, the grass is
green, the flowers are out, and ICPSR is blossoming with many bits and
bytes to share!

The 2021 Summer Program is Heating Up

Registration for the 2021 Summer Program

open. The four-week courses

run June 21-July 16 and July 19-August 13. Three- to five-day workshops

have begun and run through August 20.
FY2022 Member Invoices Issued in April

Invoices for the membership period beginning July 1, 2021, were mailed in

Council News: FY2023 Membership Fees Announced

The ICPSR Council
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/content/about/governance/council.html>
met virtually April 29-30. As is required by the ICPSR Constitution,
membership fees must be approved at least one year in advance. Council
approved a membership rate structure
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/content/membership/join.html> for
FY2023 that represents a three-percent increase from current rates for the
period beginning July 1, 2022.
2021 ICPSR Research Paper Winners Announced!

ICPSR is pleased to announce the First- and Second-Place winners
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/web/about/cms/3294> of our 2021 Research Paper
Competitions!
We are also pleased to announce the 2022 ICPSR Research Paper Competitions
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/web/pages/ICPSR/prize/> for Undergraduates and
Graduate Students. The awards are $1,000 for first place and $750 for
second place in each category and publication on the ICPSR Research Paper
Competition Winners

and in a special edition of the ICPSR Bulletin. See the competition website
for details. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2022.
HMCA's Virtual Data Enclave (VDE) is Now Live!

We are excited to be able to share data from the Health and Medical Care
Archive (HMCA <https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/web/pages/HMCA/index.html>) more
easily with you from your own computer! The VDE provides a secure virtual
machine with the major statistical packages for you to analyze HMCA’s
restricted data securely. The VDE also facilitates collaboration by
allowing members of the project team to connect to the server from their
separate, approved locations. Check out this option by clicking on the
Access Restricted Data button on the study homepage and filling out the

Early Spring News that Bears Repeating

In late March, David Lam, Director of The Institute for Social Research,
announced

Maggie Levenstein’s reappointment as Director of ICPSR. We are pleased to
report that Maggie has agreed to serve a second term, extending her term
from July 1, 2021, to August 31, 2026!
Late Spring News that Bears Repeating

ICPSR is pleased to welcome Kathleen A. Cagney, a professor of sociology
and former deputy dean at the University of Chicago, as director of the
University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research

Cagney will be the first woman to lead ISR in its 72-year history. Her
appointment begins September 1; Cagney succeeds David Lam, who will step
down August 31, 2021, and return to the faculty.
