Sponsored workshops featuring ICPSR data
As part of the ICPSR Summer Program curriculum, every year we offer short
workshops specializing in data housed at ICPSR. These workshops are
typically paid for by sponsors, and free to attend! Because they are free,
and because they focus on very specific topics from our archives, there is
an application process for admittance.
As with almost all of our courses this year, these workshops are *fully
hybrid*. Attend in-person or virtually!
*Exploring and Analyzing Monitoring the Future Data: A Primer*
Instructor(s):
- Deborah D. Kloska, University of Michigan
- Devi Putcha, University of Michigan
- Yvonne Terry-McElrath, University of Michigan
Dates: June 27-30, 2022
Format: Hybrid (in-person or virtual)
This four-day workshop will introduce participants to the Monitoring The
Future <http://monitoringthefuture.org/> cross-sectional data (public-use
and restricted-use) and the restricted-use longitudinal panel data
available from the ICPSR/NAHDAP archives. The workshop will cover the
content of MTF public release and restricted-use data, study documentation,
data management and analysis planning, and, as time and interest allow, a
variety of analytic techniques appropriate for data derived from a complex
sample design. The workshop format will be a combination of in-person
lecture and synchronous virtual participation via Zoom, discussions, and
demonstrations followed by lab sessions for participants to work with a
subset of the MTF restricted-use data.
*Application deadline: May 20, 2022*

Instructor(s):
- Glen Mays, University of Kentucky
- Rachel Hogg Graham, University of Kentucky
- Deena Brosi, University of Colorado
Dates: July 19-21, 2022
Format: Hybrid (in-person or virtual)
This three-day workshop will support participants in planning and
conducting secondary data analysis using data from the Health and Medical
Care Archive (HMCA). Sessions will include an in-depth overview of the National
Longitudinal Survey of Public Health Systems
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/web/HMCA/studies/23420>. Instructors will
describe how the data have been linked with other datasets, including area
health resource data, vital statistics, and healthcare claims, in order to
study the determinants and effects of changes in public health delivery
systems. Each afternoon will include hands-on workshop sessions that
include guided exercises and consultations for exploring your own research
interests. Early career participants are especially encouraged to apply.
