In this week's Summer Program Shortened (we're still workshopping the
name): the final three lectures of the 2021 Blalock Lecture Series, and the
registration deadline for the final workshop of the 2021 ICPSR Summer
Program!
*Blalock Lectures this week (August 9)*

It's been a great summer of lectures. 15 presentations on social media data
and research, measuring exposure to news and misinformation, innovative
ways to use everyday tools in predicting health outcomes; we've had a ton
of fun this summer, and we're ending it on a great note with these three
events (note the different start times)!

*August 10, 7:30pm EDT:* Measuring Exposure to News and Political
Information in the Digital Age (Sandra Gonzalez-Baillon, Annenberg School
Pennsylvania)

*August 11, 12pm EDT:* Q&A with Deen Freelon (University of North Carolina)
on his talk The Post-API Age Reconsidered: Social Media Research in the
'20s and Beyond <https://youtu.be/ceLTgRmoqDE>

(Deen Freelon, University of North Carolina)
*August 12, 7:30pm EDT:* Measuring White Racial Solidarity and Examining
Its Relationship to Political Attitudes and Preferences (Ashley Jardina,
Duke University)

All these events are free and open to the public. The link to join

*Still time to sign up for the last short workshop of 2021!*

*Social Science Data and Model Visualization in R*
Boris Shor, University of Houston

This course will introduce social science students to modern methods of
exploring and communicating data to a variety of audiences. The primary
tools will be the R statistical programming language, RStudio as a
development environment, and the tidyverse family of R packages (especially
ggplot2) for visualization. The object will be to enable students to feel
confident in descriptively exploring their data, communicating that to
scholarly and outside audiences, and communicating inferential results for
presentation and paper writing purposes. Throughout, good workflow
practices for scientific writing will be emphasized.
