As the last leaves fall, the daylight hours dim, and the air becomes crisp,
we encourage you to find some hot, mulled cider, and enjoy ICPSR’s fall
edition of DataBytes!
Reflecting on the 2019 Biennial ICPSR Meeting

Over 170 attendees from 86 institutions joined ICPSR in Ann Arbor for 18
workshops and sessions October 16-18 for Data Storytelling! The biennial
meeting highlighted ICPSR’s current data collections, collaborations,
data-related tools, and evolving data projects. The meeting featured a
keynote data story from Dr. Raj Chetty titled: “Improving Equality of
Opportunity in America: New Insights form Big Data
<https://youtu.be/NJwG13SE2Gg>.” It also featured a red carpet welcome
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N93HJeky3Q8&list=PLqC9lrhW1VvYPbfzPGl9w0ZdAdvyNkGVx&index=2&t=31s>
as Data Storytelling stars arrived to the events! Did you miss it?
Recordings and presentation slides are being uploaded as available on ICPSR’s
YouTube Channel

Fall into Our Team – ICPSR is Hiring Data Curators!

Join ICPSR’s team
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/files/ICPSR/enewsletters/data_curator.html> of
talented data curators! The core charge of an ICPSR Data Curator is to gain
a functional understanding of research studies using the data and
documentation deposited and convey that understanding to secondary
researchers through the creation of summary descriptions, metadata and
other study documents. And of course, to have fun doing it! *Applications
are due November 15.*
Enjoy Autumn. Think Summer.

The ICPSR Summer Program is excited to announce its four-week session dates
with the first session beginning June 22, 2020, and the second session
beginning July 20. More information, including workshop announcements,
will become available soon. Visit the ICPSR Summer Program website
<http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/sumprog/index.jsp> for the latest

Giving Thanks for Certification!

The international CoreTrustSeal <http://bit.ly/2kAobt6> Board recently
approved the certification of ICPSR as a core certified repository.
CoreTrustSeal assesses data repositories with the objective of making
repository practices and procedures transparent, and assuring that valuable
digital assets are protected. Read more on ICPSR's CoreTrustSeal
certification <https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/about/cms/1899>, and
join us for a webinar on Nov. 13 titled "Trusted Repository Certification
and ICPSR." <http://bit.ly/2l4EUFi>
Are You Among the Over 80 Percent?

Invoices for the membership period beginning July 1, 2019, were mailed in
April and were due on August 30. Thanks to more than 80 percent of members
who have already paid. Missing your invoice? Please contact us
<icpsr-help at umich.edu> and help reduce the significant consortium resources
typically dedicated to collecting unpaid membership fees!
Relax and Learn about Stress

How does Generation Z cope with stress? What do parents think their kids
are stressed about? Find answers
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/about/cms/1909> to these questions,
and more, in a newly released dataset called “Stress in America, United
States, 2007-2018,” a resource from the Resource Center for Minority Data
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/RCMD/?utm_source=SM&utm_medium=SM&utm_campaign=SM>
and the American Psychological Association.
A Cornucopia of Great, New Leadership

ICPSR welcomes several new leaders to its ranks. Allyson Flaster manages
research activities for the College and Beyond II
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/content/about/mellon-project.html>
initiative
at ICPSR. Trisha Martinez joins ICPSR as the Director of Computing and

CivicLEADS: The Resource You Didn’t Know Your Research Needed

A free webinar on December 4 (1 p.m. EST) provides information on the
collection of publicly-available data we have archived at CivicLEADS.org as
well as use cases of how other researchers are using our resources. While
CivicLEADS is a resource for all civic education, engagement, and action
researchers, early career researchers and graduate students may find this
webinar particularly useful. Register today <http://bit.ly/CivicLeads2019>!
