August 8-9, 2016

Ann Arbor, MI

Early Head Start Family and Child Experiences Survey (Baby FACES) is a
descriptive study of Early Head Start programs designed to inform policy
and practice at both national and local levels. Baby FACES followed two
cohorts of children through their time in Early Head Start, starting in
2009, the first wave of data collection, through age 3, with the final
round of data collected in spring 2012.

Baby FACES project leads from Mathematica Policy Research will instruct
this two-day data training, which will introduce researchers to the study’s
objectives, methods, instruments, key findings, and data structure.
Throughout the day there will be hands-on time with the data files and
structured exercises. Day two will focus on missing data and imputation
and child-level home visitor and teacher data, along with time to work with
the data on your own with instructors present for consultation.

The Baby FACES data files are already available on a restricted basis for
secondary analysis through *Research Connections*

Course-specific data files will be made available to the participants
on-site under the terms of a temporary Restricted Data Use Agreement. For
continued access, participants will need to complete and submit a full
online application.

The workshop is free, but space is limited. Researchers interested in using
the Baby FACES data to answer policy relevant questions in early care and
education are encouraged to apply. Participants must have programming
experience in one or more of the following software packages: SAS, Stata,
or SPSS. In addition, participants should have experience using large,
complex survey data. All applications must include a vita along with a
cover letter describing:

·        research questions intended to be explored using these data;

·        prior early care and education research experience;

· and experience analyzing large, complex survey data (including
specific data sets and types of analyses conducted).

Please also indicate the statistical package in which you intend to work.

Admitted graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and junior
faculty/researchers will be considered for one of a limited number of
stipends to help with travel and housing costs. *To be considered for one
of these awards, applicants must also submit a letter of support from a
