Hi Peter,

I feel sorely tempted to drag my old bones to AA for this occation. What is
the deal in terms of accomodations and the like for elderly trans-atlantic
participants who would probably have to stay for about a week to fight off
jet-lag.

Best regards

Frank Aarebrot

> two-day workshop on the Eurobarometer Survey Series which will take place
> in Ann Arbor on May 29-30. The description of the workshop is given

> Using the Eurobarometer Surveys
>
> Coordinator: Peter Granda, ICPSR, University of Michigan
>
> Workshop: 2 days, no credit. These surveys are the products of a unique
> program of crossnational and crosstemporal social
> science research. The effort began in the early 1970s, when the Commission
> of the European Community sponsored
> simultaneous surveys of the publics of the European Community. The surveys
> were designed to measure public awareness of,
> and attitudes toward, the Common Market and other European Community
> institutions, in complementary fashion. These
> concerns have remained a central part of the European Community's research
> efforts. In 1974, the Commission of the European
> Community launched the Eurobarometer series of the surveys, designed to
> provide a regular monitoring of the social and political
> attitudes of the publics of the member nations. Eurobarometers are carried
> out in the spring and fall of each year. In addition to
> obtaining regular readings of support for European integration and the
> perceived quality of life, each of the Eurobarometers has
> explored a variety of special topics. This workshop will be of value both
> to informational professionals who plan to assist others in
> utilizing these surveys and to researchers with an interest in comparative
> research who have limited familiarity with the series.
> Class discussion will incorporate the perspectives of the research,
> archival, and data producer communities. The course will meet
> for eight hours a day, May 29-30. Enrollment is limited. Applications must
> include a vita and cover letter describing the
> applicant's background and interest in comparative research. The fee for
> participants in this special workshop is $900; it will be
> waived for individuals affiliated with ICPSR member institutions.
> Individuals applying for the course should check the Competitive
> Two- to Five-Day box on the application form. Applications are due by
April 29.
