We are saddened to learn of the passing of former DDI Alliance Expert
Committee Chair, Hans Jørgen Marker.  We extend our condolences to his
family, friends, and colleagues.   Tuomas Alaterä's message about Hans is

Dear IASSISTers,

I’m deeply saddened to inform you that Hans Jørgen Marker, age 70, former
director of the Danish Data Archive and Swedish National Data Service,
passed away last Friday after a period of illness.

Many of you knew and collaborated with Hans Jørgen over the years. He was a
regular IASSIST conference presenter, session chair, and a friend. He was
always very involved in international data archive collaborations,
including the DDI Alliance. He was recognised by our European members as an
active promoter of CESSDA, and he served as CESSDA’s President before his
retirement in 2015.

I personally remember Hans Jørgen as an intelligent and witty friend. If
you ever sat on the same table Hans Jørgen on some IASSIST banquet cruise,
you probably agree. He will be missed.
