Hi

You would normally create just one variable section even when your study
includes several files. Use the variable group element to distinguish
between the files (set the type-attribute of the group to "file")

Remember that if there is a hierarchical relationship between the files
(like a person-files related to a household-file) you will need to define
internal and external key-variables.This is done in section 3.

If you are using Nesstar and Nesstar Publisher all of this is taken care
of more or less automatically. Do the following:

1) Document each single file in the Publisher (but you only need to do the
variable section).
2) Add a complete document and study description to one of these files.
3) Open the Hierarchy builder from the Tools menu, and use this tool to
include the files, define the hierarchy, assign the key-variables and
indicate which file that carries the study-description.
4) Publish the files from the Hierarchy builder

If you follow this procedure all is taken care of by the software and the
correct file section and a merged variable section with groups is created.
