This webinar introduces the data available from the Army STARRS suite of surveys that are available through ICPSR. Army STARRS was designed to comprehensively investigate risk factors and protective factors for suicide, suicide-related behavior, and other mental/behavioral health issues in Army Soldiers. It is the largest research study of mental health risk and resilience ever conducted among Army personnel.

Army STARRS included several distinct surveys. The All Army Study was designed to assess Soldiers across all phases of Army Service, and the New Soldier Study was designed to assess health, personal characteristics, and prior experiences of new Soldiers as they entered Army service. Data from 21,449 All Army Study participants and 38,507 New Soldier Study participants are included in the ICPSR datasets. The webinar will describe the sample design and data collection methods for the Army STARRS surveys, give an overview of the questionnaires, and provide a brief review of results already obtained from these data.
