<p>On November 14, 2016, NIH released a Request for Information (below) that "is intended to be used to inform development of NIH policies pertaining to the management and sharing of digital scientific data generated from NIH-supported research." As ardent stewards and users of research data, we encourage you to take a moment and comment on these important topics. We encourage you to share this opportunity with other data producers and users such that they may provide comment as well. </p>
<p>Comments on the topic areas of interest should be submitted electronically to the <a href="http://osp.od.nih.gov/content/nih-request-information-strategies-nih-data-management-sharing-and-citation" target="_blank">NIH Request for Information on Strategies for NIH Data Management, Sharing, and Citation webpage</a> or mailed to: Office of Science Policy (OSP), National Institutes of Health, 6705 Rockledge Drive, Suite 750, Bethesda, MD 20892, or by fax to: <a href="tel:301-496-9839" value="+13014969839" target="_blank">301-496-9839</a> by <strong>December 29, 2016</strong>.</p>

</h1>
<p>Today (November 14, 2016), in the <a href="https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-17-015.html" target="_blank">NIH Guide to Grants and Contracts</a>, NIH published a Request for Information (RFI) that seeks public comments on strategies for data management, sharing, and citation in order to consider:
</p><ol>
<li>what, when, and how data should be managed and shared; and,</li>
<li>setting standards for citing shared data and software</li>
</ol>
<p></p>
<p>The complete RFI, as well as instructions on how to comment, can be found on the <a href="http://osp.od.nih.gov/content/nih-request-information-strategies-nih-data-management-sharing-and-citation" target="_blank">NIH OSP website</a>. NIH will consider all public comments before taking next steps.</p>
