<div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_quote"><br><div dir="ltr"><div><span style="font-size:large">Secondary Data Analysis and the National Addiction & HIV Data Archive Program (NAHDAP)</span><br></div><div><br></div><div>There is still time to apply for the free ICPSR Summer Program workshop “<a href="http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/sumprog/courses/0205" target="_blank">Secondary Data Analysis and the National Addiction & HIV Data Archive Program (NAHDAP)</a>,” which will be held in Ann Arbor, Michigan from June 22-24, 2015. <br></div><div><br></div><div><b>The application deadline has been extended to May 18, 2015. </b></div><div><br></div><div><b>About the Workshop: </b>Hosted by <a href="http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/NAHDAP/" target="_blank">NAHDAP</a>, this three-day workshop will support participants in planning and conducting secondary data analysis using data sets from NAHDAP.</div><div><br></div><div>Secondary data analysis is the analysis of data collected by someone else in order to reproduce original findings, address new research questions, or employ new analytic methods. Secondary data analysis saves researchers time and money by giving them access to large, high-quality data sets that would otherwise take years and substantial funds to collect. </div><div><br></div><div><a href="http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/NAHDAP/data/index.jsp" target="_blank">NAHDAP offers hundreds of data sets</a> on drug addiction and HIV infection in the United States, including: </div><div><ul><li>“National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health), 1994–2008”<br></li><li>“National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 2005”<br></li><li>“Monitoring the Future (MTF): A Continuing Study of the Lifestyles and Values of Youth” series<br></li><li>“Pathways to Desistance” series<br></li></ul></div><div><br></div><div>In this workshop taught by Lisa Dierker from Wesleyan University, each participant's experience will be individualized to her/his own interests, background, and needs. We will consider study design, measurement, data management decisions, selection and use of different analytic tools, best practices in written presentation of results for publication, and available funding opportunities for secondary data analysis projects. Both SAS and R software will be supported and early career participants are especially encouraged to apply. The workshop can be used to develop a project based on data from NAHDAP or to make progress on a project already underway. Although the course examples will use SAS and R, SPSS will also be available on the laptops in the computer lab. Participants can spend the hands-on time on their project using SPSS or other statistical packages if desired.<br></div><div><br></div><div><b>Prerequisites:</b> Substantive interest in addiction and/or HIV.</div><div><br></div><div><b>Application:</b> Enrollment is limited to 25 participants. There are no tuition fees. Apply using the <a href="http://icpsr.umich.edu/SummerProgram" target="_blank">Summer Program portal</a> to provide your information, select the course, and complete the section on your quantitative/analytic goals (including the products you hope to generate).
