<span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">This training workshop will provide an overview of the Third Grade Follow-up to the Head Start Impact Study (HSIS). Along with a discussion of the unique characteristics of this newest HSIS cohort, the workshop will provide an overview of the study design, methodology, key findings and introduce potential data users to technical issues associated with using the Third Grade Follow-up data for secondary analysis.</span></p>
<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-size:12.727272033691406px;font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif"></span><p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:12.727272033691406px"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">The Head Start Impact Study (HSIS) is a large, longitudinal, nationally representative study of the Head Start Population, aimed at determining how Head Start affects their school readiness. <span style="font-size:14pt"> </span>The Third Grade Follow-up examines the longer-term impact of the Head Start program on the well-being of children and families through the end of third grade. Both studies, for different grade levels, examined differences in outcomes in several domains related to school readiness: children's cognitive, social-emotional, health, and parenting outcomes. They also examined whether impacts differed based on characteristics of the children and their families.</span></p>
<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-size:12.727272033691406px;font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif"></span><p style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:12.727272033691406px"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">The HSIS Third Grade Follow-up data is currently available for secondary analysis through <i>Research Connections</i> (<a href="http://www.researchconnections.org/" target="_blank">www.researchconnections.org</a>). HSIS data are well-suited for use by graduate students exploring research opportunities, instructors interested in bringing large datasets of national scope into the classroom, and researchers analyzing the development of young children and their early childhood experiences. </span></p>
