<div dir="ltr"><div>Dear Colleagues, </div><div><br></div><div>I am writing with important news about the ICPSR Summer Program. </div><div><br></div><div>Bill Jacoby, the current Director of the Summer Program, will be stepping down from this position at the end of the year to become Editor of the <i>American Journal of Political Science</i>. Although Bill will be sorely missed, a plan for the transition in leadership of the Program is now in place. Bill will continue as Director through December 2013, and in January, John Garcia will take over and serve as Interim Director through the 2014 Program. Bill and John will be working together in the coming months to ensure a smooth transition. </div>
<div><br></div><div>Bill has made invaluable contributions to the Program during his six-year tenure, adding new courses, instructors, and locations to the Program. Under Bill's leadership, Summer Program enrollment topped 1000 participants last year and is on track to equal or exceed that level this summer. We hope that Bill will continue to contribute to the Program in future years, and we wish him the very best in his new role.</div>
<div><br></div><div>John Garcia is currently the Director of Community Outreach at ICPSR and Director of the Resource Center for Minority Data. John first attended the Summer Program as a graduate student in 1969 and subsequently served as an instructor for a Summer Program seminar on Latino Research Issues. Last summer he launched a new course on health disparities, which is being repeated this year.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Consistent with practice at the Institute for Social Research (ISR), we have created a Summer Program Situational Review Committee to provide guidance for our search for the next Summer Program Director. The members of the committee are Tony Brown (Vanderbilt University and ICPSR Council), Thomas Carsey (University of North Carolina), and Pamela Davis-Kean (University of Michigan and ISR), who will make a site visit to the Program in August. Following their report in the early autumn, we will announce a national search in October with the goal of having the position filled by September 2014 to direct the 2015 Summer Program. </div>
