Spring into ICPSR for a Bit!
The sun is shining, the flowers are out, and ICPSR is blossoming with many
bits and bytes to share!
2019 Biennial ICPSR Meeting – Registration is Open!
ICPSR has developed the storyline for the biennial meeting that will take
place October 16-18, 2019. The theme is, "Data Storytelling," and the meeting
program <http://bit.ly/2XKJzdq> is focused on professional development and
practical tips for delivering data services to your institutions. Over 17
workshops and sessions will deliver practical approaches and strategies to
discover and access research data, work with data producers to share data,
write data management plans, and locate tools and resources to assist in
curating, preserving, and managing research data and telling data stories
while utilizing ICPSR’s resources. Workshops fill quickly – register now

A Bouquet of Fresh Workshops!
The 2019 ICPSR Meeting will offer four workshops

taking place on Wednesday, October 16. Workshops offer gentle introductions
to understanding research methods metadata and statistical software,
teaching with data, curating and managing research data for re-use, and an

A Keynote Data Story from Raj Chetty!
On Thursday, October 17, Dr. Raj Chetty
<https://economics.harvard.edu/people/raj-chetty>, Professor of Economics
at Harvard University, will deliver the ICPSR 2019 Meeting Keynote titled,
“Improving Equality of Opportunity in America: New Insights from Big Data.”
Dr. Chetty will discuss recent work that he and his colleagues at Opportunity
Insights <https://opportunityinsights.org/> have done to study the
question: How can we restore the American Dream of upward mobility for our
children?
ICPSR Recognized as a 2019 Recipient of Nation’s Highest Museum and Library
Honor
The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced ICPSR

Research as one of 10 recipients of the 2019 National Medal for Museum and
Library Service, the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries
that make significant and exceptional contributions to their communities.
Over the past 25 years, the award has celebrated institutions that are
making a difference for individuals, families, and communities.

Visualize Your Institution’s Usage!
ICPSR recently released a graphical version of its utilization reports.
While still in its beta release, ICPSR Representatives can find these
reports by logging into your MyData account

Manager" from your MyData dashboard. Here, you will find reports
summarizing your institution’s usage. Enhancements continue and the legacy
utilization reports

remain available.
FY2020 Member Invoices Issued in April
Invoices for the membership period beginning July 1, 2019, were mailed in
April and are due on August 30. Missing your invoice? Please contact us

Council News: FY2021 Membership Fees Announced
The ICPSR Council
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/content/about/governance/council.html>
met June 13-14. As is required by the ICPSR Constitution
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/content/about/governance/constitution.html>,
membership fees must be approved at least one year in advance. Council
approved a three percent increase across all categories for FY2021
(beginning July 1, 2020). Rates will be posted soon on the membership pages
<https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/content/membership/join.html>.

2019 ICPSR Research Paper Winners Announced
Three research paper awards were made to budding researchers this spring. ICPSR
is pleased to announce <http://bit.ly/31b3YL3> the 2019 ICPSR Undergraduate
Research Paper Competition winners: Arnold Johnsen, Northwestern
University, earning First Place with a paper titled, “Modeling Parole &
Conditional Release: An Application of Predictive Analytics Techniques
<http://bit.ly/2KApHWG>;” Emalie Rell, Elizabethtown College, earning
Second Place with a paper titled, “Mother Doesn't Always Know Best: The
Effects of Sex and Support for Sex Education on Views of Teen Access to
Birth Control without Parental Consent <http://bit.ly/2KuiSWY>.” Angela Lee
of Harvard University earned First Place in the Master’s Competition with a
paper titled “A Time-Sensitive Analysis of the Work-Crime Relationship for
Young People <http://bit.ly/2KvqUyH>.” The search for 2020 ICPSR Research
