The 2015 ICPSR Meeting in Review!

Over 156 attendees from 81 institutions joined us for 17+ workshops and
sessions September 30 - October 2 to Deliver Effective Data Stewardship!
The biennial meeting highlighted ICPSR's core functions including current
data collections and data-related tools and exciting new data projects. The
meeting also imparted practical approaches and strategies to work with data
producers to share data, write data management plans, steward
discipline-focused repositories, and locate tools and resources to assist
in curating and managing research data. Did you miss it? Recordings and
presentation slides can be found on ICPSR's YouTube Channel as well as on
the ICPSR Meeting website.

Data-Driven Journalism on a Deadline! Feedback & Applause Requested by
October 20

ICPSR is proposing a project for the Knight News Challenge with the goal to
arm professional and amateur journalists (storytellers) with the confidence
and ability to ask better questions of findings (interpretations) based on
data from surveys and other records by understanding basic tenets of truth
in impartial data collection. The project will also encourage journalists
and writers to tell stories with data in interesting and intriguing ways,
to seek out data in creating arguments, and to rely on data collected in
the most unbiased way possible. To successfully compete, we need your
comments and applause--by October 20. Be sure to watch the video included in
the application!

Save the Date--2016 Summer Program

The ICPSR Summer Program is excited to announce its four-week session dates
with the first session beginning June 20, 2016. More information, including
workshop announcements, will become available soon. Visit the ICPSR Summer
Program website for the latest details!

New to ICPSR? Need to Explain ICPSR to Others?

ICPSR has a bumper crop of recordings and slide decks for your review and
use. Among many others, you will find Understanding ICPSR - An Orientation
to ICPSR, on ICPSR's YouTube Channel. Watch the video and/or click on "Show
More" to obtain the link to download the slides. Another crop of
presentations is found on Slideshare. ICPSR encourages you to resuse, copy,
and otherwise share these slide decks!

A Bounty of Student Opportunity!

ICPSR invites submissions for the ICPSR 2016 Research Paper Competitions
for undergraduates and master's students. The competitions award first
place cash prizes of $1,000! And there is more: The ICPSR summer internship
program provides undergraduate students with a unique and expansive
research experience that introduces all aspects of social science research
via a paid internship on the campus of The University of Michigan. See
recent ICPSR interns exhibit their research (see the left pane for still
more past projects).

Featured Dataset: Army STARRS

Researchers have a powerful new resource in the Army Study to Assess Risk
and Resilience in Servicemembers (STARRS) (ICPSR 35197). Released in July
2015, Army STARRS is the most extensive study of mental health and risk and
resilience among US military personnel ever conducted.

A Cornucopia of Communication Options

We give thanks for a variety of electronic options to keep the data
community informed of developments at ICPSR! You will find presentations
for download from the ICPSR Slideshare account and many previous webinars

available for request on the Promoting ICPSR page. You can "like" us on
Facebook and "follow us" on Twitter or join our circle on Google+. And
don't forget that "old-fashioned technology"--become an ICPSR email

Giving Thanks for Great Leadership
