ICPSR's Summer Byte

The halls of ICPSR are sizzling with activity as staff teach for the Summer
Program, advise student interns, and plan for the upcoming ICPSR Meeting!
It's time to take a moment to share archive updates in the summer edition
DataBytes .

ICPSR Meeting--Have You Registered?

The 2015 ICPSR Meeting starts in just over two months! With more than 17
workshops and sessions, this biennial meeting will highlight ICPSR's core
functions including current data collections and data-related tools and
exciting new data projects. The meeting will also impart practical
approaches and strategies to work with data producers to share data, write
data management plans, steward discipline-focused repositories, and locate
tools and resources to assist in curating and managing research data.
Register here!

A Bounty of Fall Workshops Offered

The ICPSR Meeting features a full day of workshops on Wednesday, September
30. Take an introductory tour through various statistical software used in
data analysis, explore the research methods behind the metadata, learn
about best practices for curating and managing research data, delve into
resources to incorporate real data into the curriculum, and explore the
delivery of ICPSR data and related resources in-depth - all in one day! See
workshop descriptions for detailed outlines of these sessions. Spaces are
limited--register now!

Grow your Software Skills with the Software Carpentry Workshop

ICPSR is pleased to host the popular two-day Software Carpentry workshop, a
hands-on two-day event that covers the core skills needed to be productive
in a small research team, including version control, data management, and
task automation. Short tutorials alternate with practical exercises. No
prior experience is necessary. The Software Carpentry Workshop hosted by
ICPSR will run Monday and Tuesday, September 28-29, prior to the start of
the ICPSR Meeting.

ICPSR is proud to announce that James S. Jackson (University of Michigan)
and Gary M. King (Harvard University) have been named the 2015 Miller Award

2015 Flanigan Award winner. Awards will be presented to each of the
honorees at the 2015 ICPSR Meeting on Thursday, October 1. Read more about
the awards and former award winners.

Council News: 2017/2018 Membership Fees Set

At its June meeting, the ICPSR Council set membership fees one year in
advance as required by the ICPSR Constitution. To enable member
institutions to plan and budget for a longer term, Council set fees for a
period of two years.

compliance, and cryptography all have in common? All of these activities
are featured in the latest ICPSR Bulletin!

Announcing the Leamer-Rosenthal Prizes for Open Social Science!

The Berkeley Initiative for Transparency in the Social Sciences (BITSS) has
launched two prizes named for pioneers who laid the foundation for
transparency in social science. Entries are due September 13.

Data Stewardship on Display

One of the best ways ICPSR communicates the vast resources it has to offer
is with its impactful posters, artfully designed to inform and inspire
social scientists and data stewards at events around the world. From data
management to open access to data curation, ICPSR has it covered. For a
review of recent posters, see the ICPSR Poster Portfolio.

A Farewell to Summer - Interns!

After 10 weeks at ICPSR, interns are quickly putting the final touches on
their research projects and will head back to their home institutions as
the program wraps up on August 7. ICPSR wishes them the best of luck! ICPSR
interns this year included: Ilse Paniagua (Cornell Unversity); Kimberly
Gannon (Michigan State University); Cristian Nuno (University of Illinois
