The 2014 Data Fair in Review!

Over 338 attendees from 141 institutions joined us for 14 webcasts in early
October to explore research data programs that power sustainable data
access. ICPSR's sponsored programs, membership archives, and open access
data collection were featured along with updates on government requirements
for data sharing. Did you miss it? Recordings and presentation slides can
all be found on ICPSR's YouTube Channel.

A Bounty of Student Opportunity!
2014 interns
ICPSR invites submissions for the ICPSR 2015 Research Paper Competitions
for undergraduates and master's students. There are three competitions with
three first place cash prizes of $1,000! And there is more: The ICPSR
summer internship program provides undergraduate students with a unique and
expansive research experience that introduces all aspects of social science
research via a paid internship on the campus of The University of Michigan.
See recent ICPSR interns exhibit their research (see the left pane for
still more past projects).

Registration Still Open for November 13 Webinar: Drug Use among Young
American Indians - Exploring the Data

More than 100 have registered for this webinar workshop where the goal is
to expose investigators to the Drug Use among Young American Indians:
Epidemiology and Prediction study and the data available for 2001-2006 and
2009-2013. This dataset contains detailed information on 16,590 adolescents
in 7th to 12th grade in schools. Over 52% of the respondents reported being
American Indian. This webinar is featured by ICPSR's National Addiction &
HIV Data Archive Program.

More Data for the Classroom - Racial Disparities in Health Care: A
Data-Driven Learning Guide (DDLG)

A DDLG focusing on the core concept of racial disparities in health care
has recently been released. Part of ICPSR's Resources for Instructors
collection, the goal of this exercise is to explore racial disparities in
health and health care in the US and to examine some of the barriers to
access and quality health care. A gentle introduction to cross-tabulations
is used in the guide.

Seeding Branded Public Access for Institutions and Journals
openicpsr brochure cover
openICPSR, a public-access, data-sharing service launched in early 2014.
Shortly after launch and by request, ICPSR began working on openICPSR for
Institutions and Journals, an economical approach for institutions and
journals to share research data with the public without the need for
technical administration staff. In early 2015, institutions and journals
can brand their own data sharing service utilizing the infrastructure
(cloud) and benefits of openICPSR!

Giving Thanks for Great Leadership

ICPSR held its fall Council Meeting on October 16-17, 2014. In addition to
a full agenda, the Council and Staff bid a fond farewell to Rogelio Saenz,
who attended his last meeting as the Past Chair of the ICPSR Council. ICPSR
thanks Dr. Saenz for his years of service and leadership!
