Spring into ICPSR for a Bit!
Ann Arbor has successfully emerged from a long, record-breaking winter and
is enjoying the blossoms of spring! Likewise, ICPSR is blossoming with many
bits and bytes to share!
Think Spring - Plan for Fall: The 2014 ICPSR Data Fair!
Save the Date - October 7-9, 2014. This year's Data Fair will highlight
public data sharing efforts. The theme, "ICPSR - powering sustainable data
access," will feature ICPSR's public-access archives including openICPSR,
sharing restricted-use data with the public, the state of federal
requirements for public data sharing, and the benefits of continued
membership in ICPSR in the midst of the public-access environment. More
announcements on the Data Fair will come this summer.
The Spring Edition of the ICPSR Bulletin has Bloomed!
The latest edition of the ICPSR Bulletin newsletter is now available,
featuring an article on ICPSR's new public-access research data sharing
service, openICPSR, as well as a plethora of news and notes from ICPSR
members and partners.
Restricted and Open!
The Virtual Data Enclave (VDE) at ICPSR is now available to accept a
variety of restricted-use data from depositors. The VDE provides
researchers access to quantitative and qualitative restricted-use data in a
secure environment. It is a virtual machine launched from the researcher's
desktop but operating on a remote server at ICPSR, similar to remotely
logging into another physical computer. Questions on depositing
restricted-use data? See our latest VDE announcement or contact our
Acquisitions team.
OR Toolbox - Discipline-Specific Promotions
By special request from our OR/DR community, you asked for discipline- and
project-specific promotional materials, and they have sprung! Visit
Promoting ICPSR for downloadable PDF copies of these seven bookmarks or
request promotional materials be mailed directly.
Help Wanted - Spring Clean your ICPSR Membership!
Seasons pass. Time moves on. And your membership account gets outdated. We
encourage all ORs and DRs to take a quick look at the state of your
account. Have you updated your IP range? Your OR/DR contact information?
Reviewed your utilization reports? All these cleaning tools can be found by
visiting ICPSR's Membership site (left pane) and using your OR/DR
credentials to log in.
Considering a Spring or Summer Workshop on Your Campus? Materials Provided!
Planning a workshop about ICPSR's resources and services on your campus but
not sure where to start? ICPSR has updated its workshop presentation and
other promotional materials, all available on demand. Customizable
promotional posters and email/newsletter content are also ready for
download, and you can request printed materials be mailed direct to your
institution. In addition, you can find our presentations for download on
SlideShare - search for "ICPSR".
openICPSR - In Beta and Ready for (Free) Deposit!
Launched in February, openICPSR is a research data sharing service for the
social and behavioral sciences. Developed to meet evolving federal data
sharing requirements, it allows the public to access research data at no
charge. It is funded solely by deposit fees that have been written into the
grant proposal. The no-fee-deposit beta period runs through June 30, 2014.
