ICPSR's Autumn Byte

With a crisp chill in the air of Ann Arbor and the brilliant colors of fall
ablaze, it must be autumn at ICPSR and time for our fall edition of
DataBytes !
Perry Building
The OR Meeting in Review!

About 155 attendees from 94 institutions joined us for the 2013 ICPSR OR
Meeting! Did you miss it? Recordings and presentation slides (when
provided) can all be found on ICPSR's YouTube Channel. Abstracts and
presentation materials are also provided on the meeting website.

Save the Date -- 2014 Summer Program

The ICPSR Summer Program is excited to announce its four-week session
dates, with the first session beginning June 23, 2014. More information
will become available soon -- visit the ICPSR Summer Program website for
the latest details!
Save the Date!
Calling All Students!

ICPSR invites submissions for our ICPSR 2014 Research Paper Competition
from undergraduates and master's students at member institutions. We are
holding four competitions with first-place cash prizes of $1,000 each! And
there is more: The ICPSR internship program provides undergraduate students
with a unique and expansive research experience that introduces all aspects
of social science research via a paid summer internship on the University
of Michigan campus. See recent ICPSR interns exhibit their research on
ICPSR's YouTube Channel.

Calling All ORs and DRs!

ICPSR is excited to announce the OR Sabbatical for 2014. It is an
opportunity for an OR or DR to work in Ann Arbor on a special project
during the spring/summer term. The 2014 sabbatical is supported by the
Resource Center for Minority Data (RCMD) and the Instructional Resources
unit. It provides a monetary stipend, and pays for travel and lodging.
Proposals are currently being accepted (see the website for details).

A Call to Action: Sustaining Domain Repositories for Digital Data

From ICPSR and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation -- Domain repositories in the
social and natural sciences each serve a scientific community, whether it
be a traditional academic discipline, a subdiscipline, or an
interdisciplinary network of scientists, united by a common focus. Despite
the growing demand for data sharing and access, domain repositories face an
uncertain financial future in the United States. Domain repositories must
be funded as the essential piece of the US research infrastructure that
they are.

Guidelines and Resources for OSTP Data Access Plans

In February 2013, the Executive Office of the President's Office of Science
and Technology Policy published a memo titled "Increasing Access to the
Results of Federally Funded Scientific Research," which directs funding
agencies with an annual R&D budget over $100 million to develop a
public-access plan for disseminating the results of their research.
Planning resources are available on ICPSR's Slideshare account and on its
Data Management & Curation site.

A Bounty of New Releases

The Voting Behavior: The 2012 Election website is available for use. The
newest SETUPS (Supplementary Empirical Teaching Units in Political Science)
module provides students the ability to analyze an accessible dataset drawn
from the 2012 American National Election Study (ANES) survey of the
American electorate. In addition, the Measures of Effective Teaching
Longitudinal Database (MET LDB), the largest study of classroom teaching
ever conducted in the United States, is ready for analysis.
