Spring into ICPSR for a Bit!

Spring has finally arrived in Ann Arbor and ICPSR is blossoming with many  
bits and bytes to share!


Think Spring — Plan for Fall: The 2013 OR Meeting

Registration is open for the 2013 Biennial Meeting to be held October 9-11.  
This year's conference theme is "Beyond Access: Curating Data for  
Discovery, Re-Use, and Impact." The meeting will highlight ICPSR's recent  
developments in the areas of open access, restricted data management,  
training and education, digital curation, and importantly, new data and  
data tools.


Fall Data Curation and Exploration Workshops in Bloom!

The ICPSR meeting will be preceded by six workshops on Wednesday, October  
9. Workshops range from a non-statistical introduction to statistical  
software, to an exploration of the China Data Center, to a workshop based  
on the popular course Curating & Managing Research Data for Re-Use! See the  
program page for more information and links to registration.

Summer Course on Curating & Managing Research Data

There are still a few seats in the Summer Program course "Managing and  
Curating Research Data for Reuse," to be held July 29-August 2. Register  
now to gain expertise in curating data through hands-on exercises.

Budding Researchers Win ICPSR Research Paper Competitions!

ICPSR is pleased to announce the first-place winners of the 2013 ICPSR  
Research Paper Competitions: Alexander Janke, University of Michigan,  
Undergraduate Competition; Natasha Yurk, Indiana University - Bloomington,  
Master's Competition; and Sarah K. Allsberry, Washington University in St.  
Louis, Resource Center for Minority Data Paper Competition. The submissions  
to this year's competitions demonstrated a high degree of scholarship and  
creative ways of analyzing data. It's not too early to start researching  
for the 2014 competitions!

OR Toolbox – Streamlined Online Analysis

ICPSR has created a streamlined interface for the online analysis system  
SDA using its built-in XML export capabilities. The new interface improves  
SDA in the following ways:


Adds drag and drop for selecting row/column/filter/control
Moves display changes to output screen so that variable selection is simpler
Streamlines handling of weights by removing weight selection if only one  
weight is available (and required)

When available for particular studies in SDA, you'll find the tool in  
the "Analyze Online" portion of the study home page where it is referred to  
as "run/simple crosstab/frequency."

Provided!

Planning a workshop about ICPSR on your campus but not sure where to start?  
ICPSR has updated its workshop presentation and other promotional  
materials, all available on-demand. Customizable promotional posters and  
email/newsletter content are also ready for download and you can request  
printed materials be mailed direct to your institution. In addition, you  
can find our presentations for download on slideshare.net – search  
for "ICPSR."


ICPSR Spring Bulletin

The Spring 2013 edition of the ICPSR Bulletin newsletter is now available,  
featuring an article on the ICPSR Sloan project, which will be convening  
meetings of social science journal editors and representatives from domain  
repositories in June.The Sloan project, entitled "Building Community  
Engagement in Data Citation and Open Access to Data," is also sponsoring a  
Challenge Grants competition.


You're Cordially Invited!

Heading to the 2013 American Sociological Association meeting in New York  
City in August? Or how about the 2013 American Political Science  
Association meeting in Chicago in September? Come visit ICPSR in the  
exhibit hall. The ICPSR Summer Progam will host a reception at the APSA  
meeting in honor of its 50th year, and you're invited!


ICPSR to Host the 2013 Data Seal of Approval Conference

ICPSR is proud to host the second international Data Seal of Approval  
conference, to be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, in Ann Arbor, MI, the  
day before the ICPSR Biennial Meeting begins. Attendance at the DSA  
conference 2013 is free of charge, and any interested individuals,  
including ICPSR Official Representatives, may attend. We encourage DSA  
conference attendees to stay on for OR meeting events and sessions.
