Free Data Training Workshop at the 2013 Society for Research in Child
Development Biennial Meeting (Seattle)
*WORKSHOP: INTRODUCING FACES 2009
DATE: APRIL 17, 2013
TIME: 9 AM – 12 PM*
This preconference workshop will provide an overview of the 2009 cohort of
the Head Start Family and Child Experiences Survey (FACES). Along with a
discussion of the unique characteristics of this newest FACES cohort, the
workshop will cover study design and methodology and introduce potential
data users to technical issues associated with using the 2009 FACES data
for secondary analysis.
FACES is an ongoing, longitudinal descriptive study of Head Start programs,
its children, and families using nationally representative samples and a
battery of survey instruments and child assessments. FACES provides valid
and reliable national information on (1) the skills and abilities of Head
Start children, (2) how Head Start children's skills and abilities compare
with preschool children nationally, (3) Head Start children's readiness for
and subsequent performance in kindergarten, and (4) the characteristics of
the children's home and classroom environments. The FACES study is designed
to enable researchers to answer a wide range of research questions that are
crucial for aiding program managers and policymakers.
The FACES 2009 data will be made available for secondary analysis through
Research Connections
(www.researchconnections.org<http://www.researchconnections.org/?utm_source=News-%26-Resources+ListServ&utm_campaign=b5989af77c-Free_Data_Training_Workshop_SRCD_20131_25_2013&utm_medium=email>).
FACES data are well-suited for use by graduate students exploring research
opportunities, instructors interested in bringing large datasets of
national scope into the classroom, and researchers analyzing the
development of young children and their early childhood experiences.
*REGISTRATION:* There is no fee to attend this workshop, but space is
limited and advance registration is required. You must be registered for
the Society for Research in Child Development conference to participate.
Workshop slots will be awarded on a first-come/first-served basis. To
register, email:
