The Research Data Symposium, proudly hosted by Columbia University

for Data Sciences and Engineering <http://idse.columbia.edu/>, Columbia’s
Libraries/Information Services’ Center for Digital Research and Scholarship
(CDRS) <http://cdrs.columbia.edu/> and Elsevier <http://www.elsevier.com/>,
is an event being held to lead discussion on topics related to managing and
curating research data and a variety of other research outputs. The
Symposium will be held on *Wednesday, February 27, 2013.*

   by Feb. 8, Posters due Feb. 22)  *Posters should feature innovative
   research data management projects that address any or all aspects of the
   data life-cycle<https://libraries.mit.edu/guides/subjects/data-management/cycle.html>as
it relates to research in any academic field. We are particularly
eager
   to see projects that address the challenges in ensuring the
   discoverability, citability, reusability, and long-term preservation of
   research data. Posters are welcome from scientists, social-scientists,
   humanists, publishers, librarians, funding agencies, and all others who are
   involved with the management of research data. Ideally, the poster creators
   will be able to attend the symposium, but we are prepared to make
   arrangements for the display of posters by those who are unable to

The Symposium will feature speaker
panels<http://conferences.cdrs.columbia.edu/rds/index.php/rds/rds/about/editorialPolicies#custom-0>,
including ICPSR Director, George Alter, addressing the different stages of
the research data life cycle, with representatives from Columbia faculty,
learned societies, research institutions, funders, and publishers coming
together to examine the implementation stages, available technologies and
associated challenges and barriers for managing, preserving and accessing
research data. Attendees will leave armed with valuable information to
engage their respective organizational stakeholders to initiate and
continue long-term research and data management efforts.

In addition to the panels, the Symposium will feature poster presentations
addressing any or all aspects of the data life-cycle. Please let us know if
