The halls of ICPSR are sizzling with activity as staff teach for the Summer  
Program, advise student interns, and plan for the upcoming ICPSR Meeting!  
It's time to take a moment to share archive updates in the summer edition  
of DataBytes .

ICPSR Meeting -- Have you registered?

The 2013 ICPSR Meeting starts in just two short months! With over 15  
workshops and sessions, this biennial meeting will highlight ICPSR's recent  
developments in the areas of open access, restricted data management,  
training and education, digital curation, and importantly, new data tools.  
In addition, this meeting serves as an opportunity for researchers,  
teaching faculty, librarians, policymakers, and data professionals to  
gather and share ideas that will aid us as a data community to facilitate  
research and make impact.

A Bounty of Fall Workshops Offered

The ICPSR Meeting features a full day of workshops on Wednesday, October 9,  
2013. Take an introductory tour through various statistical software used  
in data analysis, explore data within the China Data Center, learn about  
best practices for curating and managing research data, delve into  
resources to incorporate real data into the curriculum, and explore the  
delivery of ICPSR data and related resources in-depth -- all in one day!  
See workshop descriptions for detailed outlines of these sessions.

ORs Taking an Active Role in ICPSR Meeting

The ICPSR Meeting will feature numerous Official and Designated  
Representatives who are passionate about delivering data services,  
exploring data for research, and teaching using data. Wonder who is  
participating? See the workshops & sessions page (updating frequently!).

Data Management & Curation Site Refreshed for Summer!

ICPSR has updated the Data Management section of its web site to better  
highlight the curation process ICPSR uses to add value to data, maximize  
access, and ensure long-term preservation.

Council News: 2015/2016 Membership Fees Set

At its June meeting, Council set membership fees one year in advance as  
required by the ICPSR Constitution. To enable member institutions to plan  
and budget for a longer term, Council set fees for a period of two years.

FY2014 Invoices Due Soon

Invoices for the membership period beginning July 1, 2013 were mailed in  
April and are due on August 30. Thanks to the nearly half of members who  
have already paid! Missing your invoice? Please contact us!

OR Tools: Linking to ICPSR Encouraged!

We are often asked if it is okay to link to ICPSR directly from websites.  
Our response is an enthusiastic, "Yes!" We encourage it. We suggest that  
when using in-text linking, that you use ICPSR in the text (as shown)  
and/or feel free to use our logo provided here!

Each year, we receive numerous updates to our OR and DR contacts – thank  
you for keeping us connected! Please take a moment to review your  
institution's contact information by visiting the member list page, finding  
your institution, and reviewing your OR and DR contact information. Need to  
make a change? Please email us!

OSTP Guidelines Posted for Summer Deadline

ICPSR has posted a new "Guidelines for OSTP Data Access Plan" page to  
support federal funding agencies affected by the February 2013 White House  
Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) memo. The page provides an  
overview of each requirement laid out in the memo, and discusses why each  
matters and the key issues to consider when formulating plans.

2013 Warren E. Miller Award and William H. Flanigan Award Winners Announced!

ICPSR is proud to announce that Janet M. Box-Steffensmeier and Kathleen  
Mullan Harris have been named the 2013 Miller Award winners, and Daniel C.  
Tsang and Wendy Watkins have been named the 2013 Flanigan Award Winners.  
Awards will be presented to each of the honorees at the 2013 ICPSR Meeting  
on Thursday, October 10. Read more about the awards and former award  
winners.

A Farewell to Summer -- Interns!

After 10 weeks at ICPSR, interns are quickly putting the final touches on  
their research projects and will head back to their home institutions.  
ICPSR wishes them the best of luck! ICPSR interns this year included: Elise  
Giammanco, Beloit College; Lorraine Blatt, Grinnell College; Denzel  
Caldwell, Morehouse College; John Leverso, University of Illinois at  
Chicago; Sruthi Naraharisetti, Michigan State University; Ryan Thompson,  
The University of Akron; and Melinda Ashe, Case Western Reserve University.
