The Web site is now available for theTerra Populus project
<www.terrapop.org>, a collaboration between the Minnesota Population Center,
ICPSR, and several other institutions. The project, funded by the National
Science Foundation's DataNet initiative, integrates, disseminates, and
preserves data describing changes in population and the environment.

TerraPop will integrate two centuries of census data with global
environmental data to create new opportunities for understanding the
relationship between population and the environment on a global scale.

People interested in receiving updates on the project can sign up for an
email list at http://eepurl.com/j3bb9. The list also provides the
opportunity to join the TerraPop development community, which involves
providing occasional feedback through surveys and the opportunity to test
the prototype system.

ICPSR's role in TerraPop is to develop a plan for preserving the data that
reflects current standards and practices.

The Minnesota Population Center <www.pop.umn.edu> is leading the project
with support from the Institute on the Environment, the University of
Minnesota Libraries and faculty from the University of Minnesota College of
Liberal Arts and College of Science and Engineering. The Center for
International Earth Science Information Network at Columbia University is
also a partner in the project. ICPSR Council member Catherine Fitch is
leading the project at Minnesota.
