ICPSR's Summer Byte - The Heat is On!
With all the developments at ICPSR, it was a hot spring and now an
even hotter summer both inside and outside the halls of the Perry
Building. Time to grab a fan and lemonade, and sit back and enjoy
ICPSR's summer edition of DataBytes.
Summer Planning for a Fall Fair
Mark your calendars! ICPSR will present a Virtual Social Sciences Data
Fair November 9 - 11, 2010. The fair will consist of three to four
webcasts per day and will feature North American and international
social sciences datasets and teaching resources. Sign up for our email
list to receive the latest developments on the Data Fair.
Enjoy Summer - Plan for Fall Orientation
Speaking of fall, would you like ICPSR to assist in your orientation
efforts? Staff would be delighted to conduct live webcasts on ICPSR
and its collections for new students and faculty. Schedule now to
avoid the rush!
Survey Says . . .
Over 150 Official and Designated Representatives provided feedback and
guidance to help shape the future of the consortium. What did they
say? See the full results of the ICPSR 2010 Membership Survey (pptx).
Hoarding Data? We Can Help.
Are you holding data or do you know about a data collection that ICPSR
should archive? Let us know! Send us an email or use our online
Suggest Data to Archive form.
A Fresh Face for Demographers
With an eye towards easier navigation, Data Sharing for Demographic
Research has refreshed its Web site! DSDR provides resources to
demographic data producers and users, including confidentiality and
disclosure review, restricted data contract development, and data
dissemination.
Council News - 2013 Fees Announced
To assist members in planning ahead for budgets, after six years of
frozen membership rates, Council approved a 5 percent increase in
membership fees across all categories for FY2013 (beginning July 1,
2012). Developing country rates will remain unchanged.
SAMHDA Continues On
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) contract
was renewed through May 2015. The project will continue to archive,
disseminate, and preserve research data on substance abuse and mental
health, as well as create public-use data by conducting disclosure
risk analysis. New work to be conducted under this award includes
developing mechanisms for distributing restricted-use files such as
through a virtual data enclave and online analysis with programmed
disclosure protections.
NAHDAP Seeking Partnerships
ICPSR's newest archive, the National Addiction & HIV Archive Program
(NAHDAP), is seeking requests for proposals for subcontracts focused
on acquiring datasets on HIV/AIDS and drug abuse. Subcontractors must
be able and willing to deposit datasets on HIV/AIDS or drug addiction
resulting from research funded by the National Institute on Drug
Abuse. Details are available in the subcontract competition document
(pdf). Applications are due by November 1, 2010.
The 3.4 on SDA
ICPSR is pleased to announce that version 3.4 of Survey Documentation
and Analysis (SDA), developed and maintained at the University of
California - Berkeley, is now available. Visit SDA Updates, or better
yet, experiment with the over 600 studies now available for analysis
online!
