Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a postgraduate student at the University College London School of
Slavonic and East European Studies and am writing to you on behalf of
the committee organising a postgraduate conference, which will take
place 16-18th February at our School.

It is the seventh event in a successful series of conferences, most
recently held in London in 2003 and in Warsaw in 2004. This year’s
conference will focus on the issues concerned with Central and Eastern
Europe and the countries of the Former Soviet Union. In particular, it
will look at the phenomenon of inclusion and exclusion from the
perspective of political, social, economic, as well as historical,
literary and cultural studies.

We will be hosting four major specialists on inclusion/exclusion: Lesley
Abdela MBE (UK), Kurtmolla Abdulganiev (Ukraine), Lord Ralf Dahrendorf
(UK) and Kuba Wygnanski (Poland), who will open the conference. We have
also received many high-standard and interesting paper proposals from
all across the region. There will be representatives from over 20
countries presenting on a variety of topics from different disciplines
as well as geographical locations at the event.

The objective of the event is to develop an understanding of both
Eastern and Western interpretations of the region as well as provide a
forum for the ideas and concepts of postgraduate and post-doctoral
students. The conference will also enable young researchers to develop
practical research related skills useful for paper presentation and
publication. It will also present a unique opportunity to exchange ideas
with peers and scholars from other parts of the region. Additionally, it
will be a chance to travel to one of the most inspiring cities in the
world.

We would like to have as many people as possible attending the
conference. In order to ensure that, we need to inform people across the
region and elsewhere in the world about the event. We would therefore be
very grateful if GESIS could inform its members and associates about the
conference, for example by forwarding this message, placing a link on
the website or mentioning the event in a newsletter.

We would be very grateful if you could help us promote the conference.

Please find attached a document with some information on the event.
Details, including the programme and registration form can be found on
www.ucl.ac.uk/ssees-pgconf <http://www.ucl.ac.uk/ssees-pgconf>.

Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to
contact me.

Thank you very much in advance.

Yours faithfully,
Barbara Madaj
