From Morten.Jakobsen at nsd.no Thu Dec 2 08:23:56 2021 From: Morten.Jakobsen at nsd.no (Morten Jakobsen) Date: Thu, 2 Dec 2021 13:23:56 +0000 Subject: [DDI-users] geoMap in Lifecycle Message-ID: <949420c794c94e6b8867613a52e8dc25@nsd.no> Hello, In reading the linked field level documentation of Lifecycle I have been unable to identify a similar element as geoMap in Codebook. My main goal is for variables that are tagged as "is geographic" I can supply more information on the geography in question, more specifically a link to an exact map that shows the geography measured by the variable. Is this possible in Lifecycle? Codebook does additional geographic specifics at the study level, but links to a shape file would be made by describing it as one of the other study material and using the sdatref to link the variable to the item. Lifecyle: Similar to Codebook, Lifecycle has OtherMaterial which can reference any identifiable object. So creating such a description of an external raster type map and pointing from this description to the variable represented would be the way to approach this. The isGeographic boolean tag allows you to specify whether a variable is used to identify geography (name, code, type, etc.). The representation of the variable can provide links to descriptions of the geographic structure (is it a state, county, etc.) and geographic location. The representation types GeographicStructureCodeRepresentation and GeographicLocationCodeRepresentation express the range or selection of valid codes as well as information on any nesting required to create unique codes (for example a county code may require information on the state code to provide a unique identification). Location descriptions (LocationValue) support links to shape files (GeographicBoundary has an option for pointing to a shape file). Please let me know if you would like additional details or if you think we are missing information. If so, you can file an issue to be addressed in a future version of lifecycle or codebook. The Scientific Community comprises the scientific representatives, technical contacts, and other representatives within the Alliance -- those identified as fulfilling the scientific and technical roles. Anyone interested in the scientific activities of the DDI Alliance is welcome to join. Please register in advance for this meeting: https://umich.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJclc-2vpz0oHdfSylYbKcELaVt2mYsOBdEf After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. This meeting of the Scientific Community is an opportunity to discuss the DDI Alliance Scientific Work Plan, 2021-2022 and the activities of the Scientific Board and its working groups and committees . It's also an opportunity to meet more frequently than just the annual meeting typically held in June of each year. The Scientific Board will provide an agenda in advance of the virtual meeting. We hope to see many of you at the January meeting! You are receiving this message since you are subscribed to one or more DDI mailing list. We are now planning to transfer mailing list hosting from Mailman to Google Groups . We expect this transfer to improve stability and usability. The transfer is scheduled for the week of 1 February 2022. After the transfer, users should not notice a large difference in messages sent on the lists. Existing mailing list subscribers will remain as list subscribers and will continue to be able to send and receive messages. The primary difference will be that starting February, messages sent to DDI mailing lists will be stored in a Google Group rather than on a Mailman archive. Mailman archives will be retained in their current format for the time being. For mailing lists with no activity since 2019, we will shut down the list but retain the Mailman archives. Any users on those retired lists not already subscribed to ddi-users will be subscribed. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. We will be emailing each list as we progress through the transfer to Google Groups.
