[DDI-users] DDI and Dataverse

Great, thanks Anne!

Indeed more of us are looking to use Dataverse it seems. In our case we have more detailed DDI in a related repository we've maintained over the years (Nesstar). Bringing the two together for increased discovery and access would require more DDI support in Dataverse without loss of metadata.

If others are interested in exploring how Dataverse can support more DDI, either Codebook or Lifecycle use cases, it would be great to hear from you.

Larry - great example of how Dataverse can adopt structured contributor metadata, using DDI nonetheless. Dataverse has contributor roles, but it doesn't map to anything (I don't believe), yet another thing to investigate!

Best,
Amber

One thing that DDI-Views has added is the ability to include roles and degrees of contribution to contributorship. This can be done with an external vocabulary such as the Casrai Contributor Roles classification http://dictionary.casrai.org/Contributor_Roles or the Openrif contribution ontology https://github.com/openrif/contribution-ontology/tree/master/diagrams

Attribution of contribution is starting to be adopted by publishers (e.g. PLOS1) and makes sense for data as well. Often substantial contributions are not adequately credited by simple authorship lists.

Dear Amber and group

To us it sounds like a very interesting idea to form a WG on this subject.

We just had a meeting with The Royal Library (in Denmark) about possibilities for publishing our DDI Lifecycle based metadata in a Dataverse set up by The Royal Library. We have planned to meet again in March.

At the meeting we wondered about the potentials in Dataverse as it is a DDI-based service. At least to us it was not obvious what there was to gain 'extra' from publishing DDI-based metadata.

Could this this case-based work be of interest to a potential WG?

Best regards

Anne Sofie

Hello DDI community,

I'm wondering if there is any interest in gathering use cases and perhaps forming a small working group to identify DDI fields for inclusion in future versions of Dataverse, the open-source data repository (http://dataverse.org/ )?

I've spoken to some of you before about DDI and Dataverse, and at the 2016 IASSIST BOF there was some discussion put forward about supporting more DDI in the system. How can we support more DDI in Dataverse?

Can you reply with some use cases and potentially your interest in a WG? Ideally you will be interested in this as a Dataverse development project / contributions in some way or another.
