Hi.
Using the current DDI, I would suggest the following markup:

<varGrp ID="" var="V1 V2 V3">
<labl> [write up a label for the group] -- optional but recommended</labl>
<txt>I am going to read out some words and phrases that have been used about
the political parties. Regardless of which party you would vote for, please
say in each case whether you think the word or phrase is true or not true
of Party A/Party B/Party C [optional]</txt>
<defntn>[explain why vars were grouped in this way - share introductory
text, etc... this is free-format right now] -- recommended. I guess the
pre question text can also be included here,
instead of the element <txt> shown above<txt></defntn>
</varGrp>
<var ID="V1" name="">
<qstn ID=""><preQTxt>
I am going to read out some words and phrases that have been used about
the political parties. Regardless of which party you would vote for, please
say in each case whether you think the word or phrase is true or not true
of Party A/Party B/Party C</preQTxt><qstnLit> Understands the problems
ordinary people face in today's world</qstnLit></qstn>
</var>
<var ID="V2" name="">
<qstn ID=""><preQTxt>
I am going to read out some words and phrases that have been used about
the political parties. Regardless of which party you would vote for, please
say in each case whether you think the word or phrase is true or not true
of Party A/Party B/Party C</preQTxt><qstnLit> Shares my values</qstnLit></qstn>
</var>
<var ID="V3" name="">
<qstn ID=""><preQTxt>
I am going to read out some words and phrases that have been used about
the political parties. Regardless of which party you would vote for, please
say in each case whether you think the word or phrase is true or not true
of Party A/Party B/Party C</preQTxt><qstnLit> Is honest and
principled</qstnLit></qstn>
</var>

We need the ability to create good and clear links between <preQTxt> and
<qstnLit>, but since they're not really available in the current DTD, I
think repeating the <preQTxt> - if feasible - is the best way to go.
Also, creating var groups to include such "clusters" of questions is not
absolutely necessary, especially if we repeat the <preQTxt>, but it may be
a welcome addition, that enhances the markup.

Cheers
Sanda.
