[DDI-users] RE: Section 3 - File Description Interpretation

While I have not yet implemented DDI, I can offer another perspective. 
Library catalogers have been creating metadata for centuries and the
standard today is to describe the work "in-hand". This approach would
agree with Sanda's recommendation.

BTW, this leads to a question I had about the DDI community...are there
any librarians and particularly library catalogers on this list? Are you
charged with "cataloging" datasets? It just seems to be a logical use of
human resources to hire someone who has been trained to analyze and
describe "things" using standards.

Is this how everyone else who has been working with the codebooks has

interpreting this section as well?  I'm just trying to get a consensus
