Hi, Elizabeth.
When your nested elements have different sources (some provided by the 
producer, and some by the archive) there really are only two options for 
filling in this attribute in the "parent" element - either you specify the 
dominant source (that has provided most of the information) or you leave 
the attribute empty. Obviously, none of these solutions is perfect, and the 
choice is really yours. You need to be aware though that if you go with the 
second option, some browsers will automatically display the default, which 
is "producer". This is exactly what happened in the example you're citing 
from study 6084, where we did not fill in the source attribute (as far as I 
remember) and "producer" is being displayed by default.
