[DDI-users] ICPSR VERSION Question

I have a question about the DDI-xml mappings of the ICPSR
datasets. In the description on the "XML and Study
Abstracts":
http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/ORG/aboutxml.html
there is a paragraph about ICPSR.VERSION. The text says
"This element holds text describing the 'edition' of the
study, such as '2nd ICPSR edition.'"

In looking at the latest xml files (using as an example
study No. 06104, xml updated on 7/24/2002), there is only
one <verStmt> statement for the date updated. There is no
repeat of the <verStmt> for the ICPSR version. This study
06104 is an updated version, looking at the <biblCit> the
citation for this study says:
"3rd release."

If there is such a thing as a new field ICPSR.VERSION, and
it is not used in this study, then what case would it be
used? Where in any other field is the version info, such
as release #, kept?

Thanks,
